Editor’s Note: this is an archive picture from 2006. Like this one a whole lot!
Eruption of Cleveland Volcano, Aleutian Islands, Alaska is showcased in this photo photographed by an Exploration 13 crewmember on the International Spaceport station. This eruption was initially reported to the Alaska Volcano Observatory by astronaut Jeffrey N. Williams, NASA spaceport station scientific research officer and also trip designer. This photo, obtained soon after the start of the eruption, catches the ash plume moving west-southwest from the top vent. The eruption was temporary; the plume had actually totally removed from the volcano top 2 hours later on.
